Welcome to the bilingual City of Biel/Bienne! Situated right on the lake, this city and the surrounding region of great natural beauty entice visitors to spend a delightful stay here. Leisure and action, nature and culture, sport and wellness, conferences and a wide range of activity programmes – mix and match to suit your needs!

Winter in Seeland

Enjoy the winter in Seeland! The otherwise so green and lively landscape is asleep. What an eye opener it is, when the lake and the Aare (river) meet the winter's bright dress. You will have the opportunity to become a culture vulture in the cities and the villages round the Seeland as there are plenty of festivals and concerts to go to. You not only have the culture, but also the special food restaurants, where you can eat the speciality of the region be it game, fish or the local foods, not least good are the wine-cellars, where wine is best drunk and enjoyed.

Biel's Historical Centre

Most visitors come to Biel expecting a 19th century industrial city, and many of them are surprised to find that a typically mediaeval core is still preserved between the modern city on the plain and the villas on the slopes of the Jura. The outward appearance of the houses in the old town is still largely the same as it was in the 18th and early 19th centuries, with traces of older construction and the outlines of late mediaeval foundations visible everywhere. »»
